The students in Room 17 have become very inspired by the book The Calder Game written by Blue Balliett. The book centers around the real works of artist Alexander Calder. The students unanimously voted several of Calder's tree based pieces to be focal art pieces for the remainder of the year. Currently, pairs of students are working in the Tinkerer Area to create paper "stabiles" based on Calder's many massive sculptures. The challenge is to use only two pieces of card stock to make a dimensional design. We look forward to extending this work with our balance and motion unit in the near future!
