The students decided to share their family heritage. First we had to discover where everyone's ancestors came from. We listed our countries in alphabetical order and made a chart so we could see the information. The students looked at the flags of each country to determine the color used in the graph. Once we could see who was from which countries we could start planning. The students wanted to show this information through dance. They decided to select a folk songs for each country. We listened to lots of different music and each group made a song choice that they enjoyed and could inspire a dance. Next, we began to choreograph the dances. After that, the students decided to learn the greetings in the language of the country. They also created a tree in the middle of the performance which they named the "Tree of Life." They decorated this tree with photos of ancestors at the bottom and their families at the top representing generations. Click below to see the performance.
